FAQs

Do I need to purchase a service subscription per every scanning device I buy?

Yes, every Revlr Venue Smart ID Scanner requires it's own monthly service subscription. This allows the device to function will all the awesome features. If ordering in bulk, there may be an opportunity to work out a deal at a discounted rate. Contact sales@revlrvenuestore.com with any questions or interest. Just remember to purchase both service subscription and device at the same time.

Why do I need a Wi-Fi connection to use the ID Scanner?

Currently, the Revlr Venue Smart ID Scanner needs to be connected your Wi-Fi in order to scan, verify, securely collect and send patron information. The device connects to Wi-Fi just as simply as an iPod or iPhone does.

Can I scan all 50 state driver's licenses?

The Revlr Venue Smart ID Scanner reads and verifies IDs formatted in the PDF417 barcode. The majority of IDs have changed to utilize this format (including the new NY driver's license). The device does have the option to read magnetic strip formatted IDs (though it is an aging format), we will be adding that ability in the near future. We're also currently equipped to scan and process the (eventual) next wave of patron identification, but we'll discuss that when the time is right.

Who sees my venue's demographic reports?

Only the account holder has access to your venue's demographics and statistics. Your account is only accessible by using your chosen email/password combination.

My security team will be using this device; is there any way to help protect it in case things get a lil' rocky?

Yes, in the products section we offer an external rugged case to help protect the Revlr Venue Smart Scanner in the event things get a "lil' rocky." The device can be carried in the belt holster and charged in the multi-device charging dock while in the rugged external case. All accessories are available on the products page.

When will the Revlr Mobile App be available for my customers to download?

We are building our network of venues, and as that portion grows, we will begin to roll out the Revlr mobile app. Subscribe to our newsletter to be kept updated on upcoming features.

I'm having trouble scanning the new NY license. I keep getting an invalid alert.

Don't worry, this is not your smart scanner malfunctioning or any error on your part! The new NY licenses were made with an additional smaller barcode underneath the regularly scanned PDF 417. The laser is detecting both, resulting in it registering as an invalid ID. To resolve this simply aim the smart ID scanner laser slightly above the thick barcode (PDF417). This will result in a successful verification.

Why do some scanned underage licenses, flagged on my bounce list, have a minus sign (-) in front of the age?

Good question. This occurs due to the ID being fake, and the Smart Scanner recognizing the error. Some counterfeiters have evolved to the point in properly creating scan-able fake licenses. However, they often improperly format information encoded on the ID. The scanner is scanning the fake ID's bar code, recognizing an error, and posting the format error on the bounce list. If you scan an ID, and an alert message pops up on your Smart ID Scanner screen, trust that alert and take caution!
